English Text
The government does not want this medieval ring to be sold to someone abroad. According to the minister, the ring is too important for Dutch history. The ring was found almost 30 years ago in the ground in Sumar, a village in Friesland.
The medieval piece of jewellery is more than 1000 years old. The ring features drawings about stories from the Bible.
Because the ring says so much about history, the Netherlands wants to protect it. This means that the government must first give permission for the ring to be taken out of the country.
The owner of the ring now wants to sell it to someone abroad. But, says the government, that is not allowed. The government wants children to be able to look at it and learn about it instead of the ring disappearing abroad.
